Your Mystique

We usually hold those we look up to on a weird, existential, and stunningly irrational pedestal. That successful entrepreneur or entertaining speaker or rabid networker seems to have figured out something that you haven’t. How could you ever hope to get there?

Until you meet them, share coffee, break bread. Then you realize they have (mostly) the same fears you have, they make mistakes just as often as you, and they maintain their own set of sick personal vices.

Discovering that is either going to put them even higher on your love list or plummet them into the deep, dark, abysal basement of your apathy.

This is probably useful to remember, because someone is looking up to you right now and someday you’re going to share a coffee. What realization will they then make?
