Existing where you can ACT

The stories are endless and glorified everywhere.

The has-been machinist living in his high school quarterback glory days. Man was I The Shit.

The aspiring idealist reveling in what could be. Once I start that non-profit…

We spend a lot of our time thinking about the past, and dreaming about the future. We’re nostalgic, melancholy, hopeful, regretful, and venomous all at different times. We dwell in the good days and aspire to the better days. We tell stories of conquest and share dreams of tomorrow.

That trip was so fucking sweet.

I can’t wait to graduate.

But what about this day? What about today? Christ what about NOW?

Turns out this is the only moment you can impact.

And it just slipped by (there goes another one).

Yesterday is gone and tomorrow has yet to arrive.

All you have is today.

What are you going to do with it, right now?

Exist where you can ACT. Residing anywhere else is mental masturbation.

What about collecting the skills TODAY that you will need in order to make the impact you want TOMORROW…does that count as doing something?

I think that’s for you to decide. The idea is that the only moment you can truly impact is the one you’re in right now.

This is not to say you shouldn’t look ahead, but it IS to say you shouldn’t dwell there too long.

Molly, I think you’re fine as if you are “collecting” skills, I’m assuming (hoping) you’re taking ACTION. The moment you are taking a passive approach, you’re missing the boat. I think the only fuzzy line is if you’re ONLY reading to gain your skills/knowledge and you’re one of those people that reads the same book for a year OR reads hundreds of books before they ever take any action with their newfound knowledge.

If you are taking those steps to get to your desired impact, you’re actively moving towards your goal. Anyway, I hear Rome wasn’t built in a day…but I guarantee a hell of a lot of stones were carried each and every day.
